Open Call for (Still) Life: Photography Exhibition
Deadline extended through November 20, 2017; submit below
(Still) Life seeks work that draws on the many ways in which the stillness of the photographic image can bring the viewer into contemplation of a frozen moment of life. Whether through the traditional vocabulary of the still life as a reflection on mortality, the documentary impulse to make life hold still for the eye, or the essential message that we are still here, still alive, the wider senses of the still life are deeply embedded in the practice of photography. For (Still) Life, our upcoming open-call photography show, Shoestring Press seeks submissions that explore the many ways in which the photograph works to hold life’s ceaseless motion still for the eye.
Each artist may submit up to three digital photographic works for consideration using the form below. A $15 submission fee will be used to defray the cost of review, exhibition, and production. Artists wishing to submit additional pieces may do so - simply complete an additional submission form with an additional submission fee.
Each artist selected to exhibit in (Still) Life will meet with our digital master printer to produce a finished 19"x27" print for the exhibition on our new Epson P7000, to be printed and framed at Shoestring Press, and given to the artist at the conclusion of the exhibition. Artists will be notified of their selection by November 30. Please be available to travel to Shoestring Press in Brooklyn to supervise the printing of your piece between December 10 and January 1. (Still) Life will open February 18, 2018, and be on display until March 16 . After the exhibition, each artist will receive their framed print free of charge.
