In this four-session relief printing course, students will learn the fundamentals of woodblock and relief printing, producing single color, multi-block, and jigsaw block prints.

Four sessions on Tuesday evenings, 7:00-9:30PM. Tuition includes materials and carving tools.

About the course

In this four-session relief printing course, students will learn the fundamentals of woodblock and relief printing. This course begins with an exploration of techniques for planning and carving woodblock and linocut prints, and then takes students through various approaches to making complex, multicolor relief images using multiblock and jigsaw techniques.

Tuition includes working access to Shoestring Press over the course of enrollment: tools, ink, storage, access during open shop hours, and and large-format digital printing.


About the Instructor

LANE SELL, founder, owner and master printer of Shoestring Press, is a graduate of Columbia University, where he studied Classics and Visual Art. He has instructed at Columbia and New Jersey City University, and for the past five years has run Shoestring Press in Brooklyn, working with artists and members as well as instructing classes in a variety of print mediums. In 2013 and 2014, his silkscreen work won grants from Brooklyn Arts Council.
