This course begins with an exploration of techniques for planning and carving woodblock and linocut prints, and then takes students through various approaches to making complex, multicolor relief images using multiblock, reduction, and jigsaw techniques. 

Four sessions on Tuesdays from 7pm - 9:30pm.

In this four-session relief printing course, students will learn the fundamentals of linocut and woodblock as well as experimental techniques. Design single-layer, multi-block, reduction, and jigsaw prints, and work with hand chisels, power chisels, rotary tools, and routers. Open to all levels of experience. Tuition includes all the benefits of membership to Shoestring Press over the course of enrollment: tools, ink, storage, free access during open shop hours, and member discounts on figure drawing and large-format digital printing.

About the Instructor

LANE SELL, founder, owner and master printer of Shoestring Press, is a graduate of Columbia University, where he studied Classics and Visual Art. He has instructed at Columbia and New Jersey City University, and for the past five years has run Shoestring Press in Brooklyn, working with artists and members as well as instructing classes in a variety of print mediums. In 2013 and 2014, his silkscreen work won grants from Brooklyn Arts Council.
