Take a printmaking class with us
We keep our class sizes small to ensure individual attention, and provide most materials so that you can get started right away. All students enjoy shop access during open hours for the duration of the class to take advantage of extra work time.
In this popular one-day intensive, you will learn the essentials of silkscreen printing on paper in a full day of printing. This is not a textile printing class, although students may bring up to four shirts or bags to print. If your primary interest is printing textiles, please consider taking Silkscreen Shirts and Bags.
Tuition of $130 includes materials to print on paper. Students may bring garments to print if they wish.
In our flagship long-format printmaking course, you'll master screen printing basics and move rapidly through a variety of experimental techniques.
Four sessions, 7pm - 9:30pm

November 8 - December 6 (Thursday evenings, skips Thanksgiving)
Includes all materials and access to shop during office hours (12-2, 6-close daily except Wednesdays).
In this four-session class for beginners, students will learn three essential printmaking methods—block printing, monoprint, and intaglio.
Monday evenings, 7pm - 10pm.
September 10th - October 1st 2018
Materials are included.
This two-session weekend intensive course introduces students to the essentials of mark-making and printing techniques in etching. Students will develop a print in stages, starting with line etching on Saturday, and adding tone on Sunday.
November 3 - 4 12PM-8PM
In this four-session relief printing course, students will learn the fundamentals of woodblock and relief printing, producing single color, multi-block, and jigsaw block prints.

Celebrate National Book Month by learning the fundamentals of book making from simple zines to basic to intermediate sewn forms and hardbound books. Each class can be taken as a stand-alone, or all three may be purchased together at a discount. All sessions open to all levels of experience. All binding materials provided.
The Art of Making Zines Sunday October 7 12pm-5pm $100
Learn folding and binding techniques for creating a variety of zines and instant books. After learning the basics, we’ll use collaging, drawing and painting to create our own zine templates. Come with an zine idea in mind or improv! We will photocopy your work and you’ll leave with 10 finished zines and a digital copy of your work for future reproduction. No experience required.
Students may bring cut text/photos as printed matter for collaging or may bring typed text/photos on a thumb drive to print, cut and use during class.
Basic Artist Books Sunday October 14th $150
This class is intended for students who already have a strong idea for a book project. Collaborate with the instructor to explore options for sewn and folded book forms which achieve your goals for an artist book, with emphasis placed on approaches to assembling a variety of materials and creating a unique art object. Students should bring any visual or physical materials they wish to incorporate into their books - drawings, paintings on paper, photographs, digital files, collage materials, and text in digital or printed form.
Bookbinding: Clothbound & Hardcover Sunday, October 21st 12-8PM $175
Learn how to assemble a book from cover to cover. Participants will be familiarized with two common bookmaking styles, accordion fold and stab-stitch, in order to create a set of blank notebooks with a silkscreened cover motif. Please come to class with a simple icon (i.e.: flower, feather, fish, etc) to guide your book design. Includes all materials.
This one-day intensive introduces students to multicolor printing on shirts and bags, using an octopus textile rig.
Scheduled at mutual convenience, this one-day intensive takes 6 hours.
$150, BYO items to print on and we provide the rest. Silkscreen experience required.
Tutorial memberships are designed to meet the individual needs of students who want to learn a new printmaking skill, or need hands-on assistance, while completing an independent project. Includes one month of membership and three 3-hour sessions of one-on-one instruction (or equivalent), scheduled at mutual convenience with the master printer over the course of the month.
Take a one-day tutorial in any of our traditional printmaking processes with the Master Printer or Shop Manager. You'll learn the basics with a focus on creating finished prints of your own work.
Scheduled at mutual convenience. You may book this for a single student for $150, or for two students working in the same process for $250. For larger groups, contact us for customized private workshops.
In this one-on-one workshop with the Master Printer, learn to use our electroplating bath to "steelface" your etching plates. Steelfacing makes for easier printing, longer print runs, and more consistent printing of fine aquatints and drypoint plates.
BYO copper etching plates to steelface, as many as time permits. Scheduled at mutual convenience with the Master Printer.
In this two-session tutorial, students will learn to prepare templates for plate photolithography, expose and develop plates for a multi-layer image, and print their work.

In this four-session one-on-one tutorial, scheduled at mutual convenience with the Master Printer, students will explore the essential techniques of mokuhanga, traditional Japanese woodblock printing.
